Botox has been around for years - it was first introduced in 1989 as a treatment for eyelid twitches and eye muscle disorders. It didn't really become as popular as it is today until 2002 when the FDA approved it to treat frown lines around the eyes. While the procedure is very safe and effective, there is a rare risk of side effects which include bruising at the injection site that lasts several days, eyelid drooping that can last several weeks, nausea and flu-like symptoms.
